On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the Women\u2019s Studies Center at the University of Baghdad held a scientific conference entitled \u201cTowards a National Strategy for Women\u2019s Development in Accordance with National and Social Identity,\u201d in cooperation with the Women\u2019s Affairs Department at the Ministry of Education. The event was attended by academics, researchers, representatives of state institutions, and civil society organizations, along with the university\u2019s Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Suhail Najm Abdullah.<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference was inaugurated by the Center\u2019s Director, Professor Dr. Athraa Ismail Zidan, who emphasized the importance of formulating a comprehensive national strategy for women\u2019s empowerment that respects Iraq\u2019s cultural and social particularities and aligns with the country\u2019s political and economic transformations.<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference addressed several key themes, most notably women\u2019s economic and political empowerment, the role of media and education, and the reconstruction of a supportive social discourse for women. Scientific papers were also presented, showcasing local and international experiences and offering practical proposals for developing an Iraqi strategy that considers cultural, religious, and economic diversity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recommendations:<\/span>
\n1.Integrate women\u2019s issues effectively and systematically into public policies and national development plans.<\/span>
\n2.Activate national legislation that supports women\u2019s rights and ensure its implementation on the ground.<\/span>
\n3.Enhance women\u2019s participation in decision-making positions across all levels\u2014political, administrative, and economic.<\/span><\/p>\n
