The Women\u2019s Studies Center at the University of Baghdad held a scientific symposium titled:<\/span>
\n\u201cWomen Leaders as Effective Agents for Building Bridges of Understanding and Peaceful Coexistence in Local Communities,\u201d <\/span>under the slogan: \u201cWomen as a Pillar for Building Community Peace,\u201d <\/span>in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and the National Action Plan for Women, Peace, and Security 2025. <\/span>The event took place on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n

The symposium commenced with an opening address by Dr. Athraa Ismail Zaidan, Director of the Center, who emphasized the importance of women\u2019s empowerment and the strengthening of their leadership roles. She presented the keynote paper titled: <\/span>\u201cWomen and the Prospects and Challenges of Promoting Peace.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The symposium featured contributions from a number of specialized female researchers, who presented papers addressing women\u2019s roles in peacebuilding and community development, including:<\/span>
\n\u2022 Dr. Wijdan Fareeq Enad, \u201cThe Impact of Women on the Advancement of Iraqi Society: A Comparison Between the Past and Present\u201d<\/span>
\n\u2022 Asst. Prof. Liqaa Amer Ashour, \u201cIraqi Women as a Cornerstone for Building a Cohesive Society\u201d<\/span>
\n\u2022 Asst. Prof. Alaa Jawad Haneen, \u201cPeaceful Coexistence and Its Impact on Family Stability in Nineveh\u201d<\/span>
\n\u2022 Lecturer Heba Hussein Qasim, \u201cThe Role of Women Journalists in Promoting Community Peace\u201d<\/span>
\n\u2022 Asst. Prof. Lara Hassan Abdullah, \u201cWomen as Peacemakers: Successful Leadership Models\u201d<\/span>
\n\u2022 Lecturer Zainab Mohammed Khalaf, \u201cThe Active Role of Women in Politics and the Engineering of Community Peace\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Recommendations:<\/span>
\n1. Strengthen women\u2019s empowerment in positions of political, media, and civil society leadership.<\/span>
\n2. Integrate the concepts of peace, tolerance, and diversity into educational curricula.<\/span>
\n3. Highlight women\u2019s roles in promoting a culture of coexistence.<\/span><\/p>\n
