The Department of International Community Research at the Women’s Studies Center at the University of Baghdad organized on Tuesday, 16\/12\/2025, an academic seminar titled ‘Amnesty International’s Experiences in Protecting Human Rights,’ with the participation of a group of academics and researchers specializing in political science and human rights. <\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar featured two academic lectures. Lecturer Dr. Ibrar Jawad Kazem, teaching at the College of Political Science, presented a research paper discussing the limits of Amnesty International’s work, highlighting the legal and institutional frameworks governing the organization’s activities at both the international and regional levels. <\/span><\/p>\n

Assistant Lecturer Rand Louay Hadi, also teaching at the same college, presented a research paper titled ‘The Role of Amnesty International in Protecting Women Human Rights Defenders,’ in which she reviewed the main mechanisms the organization relies on to support and protect women human rights defenders, as well as the challenges they face in different political and social environments. <\/span><\/p>\n

The session was chaired by the Head of the Department of International Community Research, Assistant Professor Dr. Sinan Salah R.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the conclusion of the session, the participants came up with a set of recommendations:<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Emphasize the importance of enhancing cooperation between academic institutions and international human rights organizations, especially Amnesty International, to support women’s rights issues. 2. The necessity of providing effective legal and institutional protection mechanisms for women human rights defenders, contributing to reducing forms of violence and discrimination against women. 3. Support specialized research and studies in the field of women’s rights and benefit from successful international experiences in developing related national policie<\/span>s.<\/p>\n
