On Monday, December 2, 2024, the Woman’s Studies Center held a panel discussion titled “Drugs Abuse and Its Psychological and Social Effects” in the center’s meeting hall.
This panel discussion, chaired by Dr. Shaimaa Kadhem Al-Haboubi, was part of the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week and aligned with the National Strategy 2023–2030, specifically the fourth pillar on woman’s protection. Dr. Rana Talib Yassin presented a lecture titled “Types of Drugs and Their Psychological Effects,” while Assistant Lecturer Bidaya Abdullah discussed “Addiction and Drugs: Definition, Types, Causes, Effects, and Solutions.”
The key recommendations from the panel discussion included:
- Launching awareness campaigns about the dangers of drugs in schools, universities, and through media platforms.
- Enhancing family supervision and the community’s role in guidance.
- Monitoring and supporting licensed rehabilitation centers to improve their effectiveness in treating drugs addicts.
- Establishing more institutions and research centers to study phenomena threatening sustainable development, such as violence, drug abuse, addiction, divorce, and social and psychological disorders.
