In a pioneering initiative that reflects its genuine commitment to supporting women’s issues and promoting sustainable development principles, the Women’s Studies Center at the University of Baghdad, under the supervision of its Director, Professor Dr. Athraa Ismail Zidan, donated a valuable collection of its scholarly publications to the Iraqi Council of Representatives on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

The collection includes 390 academic publications encompassing studies, guides, and references addressing women’s issues from various legal, political, and social perspectives. Assistant Lecturer Zainab Mohammed Khalaf, Head of the Quality Assurance Unit at the Center, presented a brief overview of the content of these publications, which notably include:
• The Electoral System in Iraq and Its Impact on Women’s Political Participation
• Enhancing the Role of Female Parliamentarians: A Guide to Parliamentary Practice in Iraq

The publications were officially handed over to MP Donia Al-Shammari, Chair of the Women, Family, and Childhood Committee in the Council of Representatives, who will oversee their distribution to council members to enhance legislative understanding of women’s issues and support their active participation in political decision-making
