The Empowerment and Capacity Building Department at the Center for Woman’s Studies at the University of Baghdad held a workshop on Sunday, February 9, 2025, titled “The Role of Sports Activities in Promoting Peaceful Coexistence Among Youth from Different Backgrounds.” The workshop took place in the hall of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences.

The seminar was presented by Dr. Rasha Karim Ali and Assistant Lecturer Mustafa Abdul Amir Hussein from the College of Physical Education. The workshop discussed the role of sports activities in promoting peaceful coexistence among youth, emphasizing that sports are a powerful tool for enhancing social values and building bridges between individuals from diverse backgrounds. Sports also promote ethical and social values that contribute to fostering cooperation, respect, tolerance, and justice, which are essential foundations for building healthy societies. This, in turn, reflects positively on their daily interactions, reduces tensions, and builds trust among them.

The session, chaired by Assistant Lecturer Heba Abdul Mohsen Abdul Karim, concluded with several recommendations, including:

1. Establishing collaborative sports programs between communities to organize mixed sports tournaments involving teams and youth from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
2. Collaborating with sports organizations and international institutions to benefit from their successful experiences in using sports as a tool for peace.
3. Organizing periodic sports events, tournaments, and festivals, and documenting and promoting these activities through media channels.
