Al-Sadr Iraq University College hosted a scientific conference today, Monday, February 24, 2025, titled “A Drug-Free Iraq and Its Impact on Family Disintegration,” in collaboration with the Union of Arab Academics and Technicians. The conference was attended by Prof. Dr. Athraa Ismail Zaidan, Director of the Woman’s Studies Center at the University of Baghdad, along with a group of academics, experts, and specialists in social, legal, and health fields.

The conference, which saw a wide attendance, discussed the increasing challenges arising from the spread of drugs in Iraqi society and their direct negative impact on families and social cohesion.

Speakers emphasized that the rising rates of drug abuse pose an increasing threat to the social fabric, contributing to family disintegration, higher crime rates, lower academic achievement, and weakened economic performance.

At the conclusion of the conference, participants came up with several important recommendations, the most prominent of which are:

  1. Tightening control over border crossings to reduce drug smuggling.
  2. Intensifying awareness campaigns in schools and universities.
  3. Enhancing rehabilitation and treatment programs for addicts.
