The Center for Women’s Studies / Department of International Community Research held a scientific workshop entitled (Women and the danger of addiction and their role in threatening community and international security) in the University of Baghdad, Central Library – Al-Jadriya. d. Azraa Ismail welcomed the honorable guests, and spoke about the activities of the Scientific Center, its conferences and seminars, and its scientific participation with academic institutions. The session was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Abeer Najm Al-Khalidi, Head of the International Community Research Department. She in turn referred to the role of Iraqi women in promoting peaceful and community security. The workshop discussed the following research papers: The role of the Iraqi judiciary in reducing drug crimes The role of Iraqi women in the fight against drugs Reasons and obstacles leading to the deviation of women towards addiction The role of the family in combating the scourge of drugs, the Iraqi woman as a model Women and drugs are a threat to the Iraqi family The phenomenon of drug abuse and the high index of violence against women – causes – solutions and treatment mechanisms The drug problem and its impact on the human security of Iraqi society). The workshop reached manyk recommendations, including
First: Establishing a national drug control center in the Iraqi Ministry of Health
Second: Work to link the Anti-Narcotics Agency with the Iraqi Council of Ministers.
Third: Work to unify the efforts of the Iraqi state ministries concerned with drug affairs and unify the scattered efforts
Fourth: Reviewing Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. (50) of 2017
Fifth: Preparing a strategic plan that includes remedial training programs in the religious, media and cultural awareness aspects, allocating a specific budget for drug control, and mobilizing all relevant ministries and government institutions to stop this phenomenon.
