The Department of International Society Research at the Center for Women’s Studies held a workshop on Monday, May 12, 2025, titled “The Role of Civil Society Organizations in Supporting the Rights of Iraqi Women,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Sinan Salah Rashid, Head of the Department.
The workshop addressed the vital roles played by civil society organizations in supporting and empowering Iraqi women, particularly in light of the current social, political, and economic challenges. Dr. Rashid emphasized that these organizations actively contribute to providing legal support for women, enhancing economic empowerment, offering protection from violence, and promoting women’s political participation.
Recommendations:
1. Strengthening Cooperation and Support
Expand partnerships between civil society organizations and the government, and increase financial and technical support for organizations concerned with women’s rights.
2. Empowerment and Awareness
Intensify awareness campaigns on women’s rights, especially in remote areas, and provide training programs for women’s economic and professional empowerment.
3. Participation and Protection
Support women’s representation in decision-making positions and establish shelters and protection services for survivors of violence.
This initiative aligns with the goals of the Third National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security (2025), and contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 16.
