The Women’s Studies Center took part in a legislative workshop organized by the Parliamentary Committee on Women, Family, and Childhood, chaired by MP Donia Al-Shammari, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the headquarters of the Iraqi Council of Representatives. The workshop focused on discussing the pilot legislative model of the Family Law in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The event was held in cooperation with the Cultural Attaché of the Iranian Embassy in Baghdad and featured the participation of Ms. Fatemeh Ghassem Pour, Chair of the Committee on Women and Family at the Secretariat of the Expediency Discernment Council, faculty member at the College of Women and Family, and member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Iranian Parliament).

The Women’s Studies Center was represented by Assistant Lecturer Zainab Mohammed Khalaf, a faculty member in the Department of International Community Studies. The workshop explored ways to benefit from the Iranian legislative experience in light of Islamic Sharia in drafting a proposed Family Institution Law in Iraq.

The workshop was attended by several female parliamentarians, academics from Iraqi universities, and activists from civil society organizations. It also witnessed the participation of the Director General of the Research Department in the Council of Representatives, who contributed valuable comments and insights in support of the legislative proposals.
