On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the Women’s Studies Center at the University of Baghdad held a scientific conference entitled “Towards a National Strategy for Women’s Development in Accordance with National and Social Identity,” in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Department at the Ministry of Education. The event was attended by academics, researchers, representatives of state institutions, and civil society organizations, along with the university’s Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Suhail Najm Abdullah.

The conference was inaugurated by the Center’s Director, Professor Dr. Athraa Ismail Zidan, who emphasized the importance of formulating a comprehensive national strategy for women’s empowerment that respects Iraq’s cultural and social particularities and aligns with the country’s political and economic transformations.

The conference addressed several key themes, most notably women’s economic and political empowerment, the role of media and education, and the reconstruction of a supportive social discourse for women. Scientific papers were also presented, showcasing local and international experiences and offering practical proposals for developing an Iraqi strategy that considers cultural, religious, and economic diversity.

Recommendations:
1.Integrate women’s issues effectively and systematically into public policies and national development plans.
2.Activate national legislation that supports women’s rights and ensure its implementation on the ground.
3.Enhance women’s participation in decision-making positions across all levels—political, administrative, and economic.
