In a significant step reflecting a commitment to expanding international cooperation in the field of women’s empowerment, the Center for Women’s Studies at the University of Baghdad received a high-level delegation from the Lithuanian organization OSMOS Global Partnerships, headed by its director, Professor Dr. Athraa Ismail Zaidan.

The visit comes within the framework of strengthening academic and institutional partnerships and exchanging expertise to support women’s issues in Iraq, as part of a project aimed at building strategic bridges of communication between Iraq and Lithuania.

The meeting featured in-depth discussions on the status of Iraqi women within the legislative and constitutional frameworks. It was emphasized that Iraqi legislation guarantees women’s rights and that the constitution clearly affirms the principles of equality and non-discrimination. Moreover, it was highlighted that Islam has not been an obstacle to women’s participation in public life but rather a driving force in promoting their active and positive role in society.

The Lithuanian delegation included a number of researchers and advisors interested in developing mechanisms for cooperation and knowledge exchange.

This visit falls within the ongoing efforts of the Center for Women’s Studies to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5, which focuses on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
