On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the Department of International Community Research organized a workshop titled “Iraqi Women and Parliamentary Representation: Challenges and Achievements.”

The workshop featured the participation of Assistant Lecturer Noor Rashid Abdul Latif, Head of the Human Rights Unit at Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering. She presented a study assessing women’s political participation in Iraq, highlighting key factors influencing their representation in political life.

Additionally, Assistant Lecturer Beda Abdullah Baheet from the Department of International Community Research presented a research paper titled “Parliamentary Growth Reflects Society’s Aspirations and the Role of Women in Legislation.” Her paper discussed the reciprocal relationship between the development of parliament and women’s participation in decision-making.

The workshop aimed to shed light on the challenges Iraqi women face in parliament and key legislative achievements in national decision-making.

The session concluded with several recommendations, including:
• Reforming electoral laws to ensure broader and more effective representation of women.
• Launching training programs to empower women interested in running for elections.
• Enhancing political support through parties and local and international organizations.

This initiative aligns with the implementation of the Third National Plan for Women, Peace, and Security 2025, particularly its pillar on participation and institutional action, which emphasizes the importance of encouraging women’s involvement in political work.
